Mini Mixed Fleet
Round Two
11th April 2015
An interesting days racing amongst the APMYC stallwarts with five RG65's in evidence against the lone Micro 540, Abracadabra of Peter Shepherd. It was a tough ask for him and once the wind strengthened it was an even tougher one.
Despite a difficulty with his mast tube which meant switching to the rear one, Peter Jackson (30, Puma) came out on top although in the morning it looked as if Paul Risdale (53, Gothic65) was going to be unbeatable five straight race wins, however the wind picked up and started to overpower his yacht. Geoff Raygada (57 RG65) sailed very well, scoring a whole series of second and thirds but with just one win in race nine it was not enough to overhaul the front two. Mike Ewart (36, Dragon Force) struggled early on, however when the wind picked up it was noticeable that his Bermuda rigged yacht was able to continue on when the swing rigged sailed RG65's were broaching all over the place.
Tim Leese (93, Puma) is rapidly becoming another stallwart and despite the numbers on his scorecard at times he got himself into some good positions and jsut wasn't able to convert them into better race positions.
All in all it was a good days racing with the weather improving throughout the day and with the direction being across the lake I was able to set a closer in, upwind downwind course which gave almost everyone a chance.
