Martin Dale Cup 2013 - RG65 Competition
November 3rd
Thanks to the skippers that turned out for the final event in this years slightly extended due to unforeseen circumstances "Martin Dale Cup", the trial event at Daventry Country Park went well and we certainly tested water in the strong gusting conditions, the skippers at times were thankful of the shelter the trees surrounding the sailing area gave.
The wet launch didn't seem to give anyone to much difficulty, and we only had to launch the rescue dinghy, donated by Nigel Rudd, in earnest once, to rescue Tim Lees Puma which first time out on the water ran out of batteries. Inevitably in such testing conditions there were a few failures, Peter Jackson broke two rigs and Tim Lees lost nearly all his battens on all his sails, Nigel Rudd had the first issue with a slipping sheet line and a jib pivot that failed (sorry about that Nigel!). All of that having been said we patched, repaired loaned boats and managed to keep nearly everyone sailing throughout the entire sixteen race event.
Daventry Country Park were most generous to allow us to use the water and a certain amount of interest was raised by the presence of the boats on the water, we hope to extend our association with the park into the forthcoming year and run next years Martin Dale Cup at the same venue, it remains to be seen how much wind will be available on a light wind day although as the conditions settled down in the afternoon the racing got closer and at times four out of the five skippers present had a chance of winning races.
The results are below and are pretty self explanatory, all that remains is to congratulate Paul Risdale on another victory and on retaining the Martin Dale Cup, it seems that a number of us are getting closer to Paul's performance hopefully we can put up more of a challenge next season.
